Desecration December, day 18: Neurosis

Wrapping the "bands that broke metal for me" theme with Neurosis, whose Times of Grace did it for me (see also day 9 and day 17 - sadly, none of these are the most interesting or exciting shirts). Like Today Is the Day, Neurosis is pretty big outside of metal and I've met a few people who come at them from a punk angle who insist they're not metal (I'm a little surprised they do have a Metal Archives page). They were also a huge influence in the development of post-metal and certain veins of sludge, influencing legions uninspired clones. Neurosis is great, but it's those clones who have made their sound a bit clichéd for me and made me less enthusiastic than I have been in the past. Saw them live as they were winding down before going on hold, and again the audience was too full of stand-and-modellers there for my taste so the show felt dead. Got this shirt bundled with a pre-order of their final album.
