Desecration December, day 9: Today Is the Day

I don't wear my Today Is the Day1 shirt much because I was much slimmer when I bought it and because I feel oddly self-conscious about the text on the back2, but the front image (the cover of The Temple of the Morning Star) is iconic AF. Bought it the first time I saw them live, at a small venue on Queen E that no longer exists ("Blue Moon," I think?). Fun fact: TITD's In The Eyes of God album was one a handful (along with Dødheimsgard's 666 International and Neurosis' Times of Grace) that broke metal for me around the time I was leaving high school, because nothing else sounded that good or fresh or inventive.
Tasty snacks: The Man Who Loves To Hurt Himself, Mayari
Also, our first band not to have an Encyclopaedia Metallum page, due to the Metal Archives' sometimes controversial inclusion criteria. Wikipedia calls them "noise rock," which isn't wrong, but there's so much about them that sounds, feels, and is treated like metal that they count for Desecration December. IMO they fit squarely in the weirder backwaters of grindcore. Also, fuck the genre police.↩
I don't know, it gives Ted Nugent if you don't know the context?
