Desecration December, day 17: Dødheimsgard
Okay, this one is very special to me. I have a lot of favourite bands and this is one of the favouritest. Dødheimsgard is one of the bands that broke metal for me in my late teens (see also day 9). Nothing sounds like them, at least not since 666 International. For my money, band leader Vicotnik (Yusuf Parvez) is the most gifted and interesting composer working in metal and has a stunning track record record under his belt (see also Ved Buens Ende, among others). I saw them live in Montreal in 2023 for their only Canadian show to date (and likely only one ever), at a festival I wouldn't otherwise go to for being far too comfortable with sketch (which made Vicotnik's infusion of black metal iconography with Indian themes all the more poignant). I also had my bag stolen from my car that trip and lost my Oranssi Pazuzu shirt, but for some reason the Dødheimsgard shirt was loose in the car and wasn't taken.
